Gorr The God Butcher

If you’re the champion Namor who always wanted to play Magik, do not miss your chance to play her in Namor style! Play Gorr The God Butcher! Summon, brawl, escape, repeat until all gods die!

Abilities

Ability stats can be found on the game’s website.

Keep in mind that when a new season is released, the information on the site is not updated immediately. Especially team-up information.

All-Black

  • The range of the sword is pretty big, but it’s not obvious from the animation.

  • The angle of your attack is also quite big: you can attack an enemy even when they are standing close to you on a side.

  • Although the hero looks kind of like Magik + Namor hybrid, the sword does not have damage falloff. But it does have it when you use an ultimate.

  • The 2nd and 4th hits deal more damage than the 1st and 3rd.

  • The 2nd and 4th hits’ animation can be canceled with a melee attack.

Necro-Power

  • The animation resembles Loki’s Mystical Missile, but beware: you need to aim at the enemy, not at the floor under them.

Living Abyss

  • Even though it gives you invincibility, it has some cast time, and during this time you can be stunned.

    • In other words, this ability is better to use for engagement, rather then disengagement.
      • Plan your disengagement ahead with Black Berserker.
    • It also means that you can not use this ability like The Thing’s Yancy Street Charge: simply tap or double tap to apply aura to yourself. You need to fly around a bit until it fully casted, then you can cancel it.
  • Invincibility means that you are not only can be CC-ed (when it fully casted), but also can not be targeted by any other ability, do not take damage, etc.

Black Berserker

  • This ability is very similar to Loki’s Doppelganger in terms of “clones” management. If you need an “exit button”, keep one of the berserkers somewhere in a safe place to warp there as soon as you get low.

  • The berserkers are CC immune.

  • Effects can not be applied to berserkers. E.g. you can not damage boost them.

    • There are occasional exceptions though. E.g. if their projectiles go through Invisible Woman’s United Siblings, they will “fire-up” and deal more damage. But she can not use berserkers as a targets for the shield.

Shadow Harvest

  • The Shadow Scythe (along with Berserker Blast ability that fires a piercing shockwave) you got after sacrificing a berserker is not reset if you use Living Abyss.

    • In other words, you can use Shadow Harvest, then Living Abyss, and then use the Scythe.
  • Moreover, the Scythe slashes counter and its timeout will start only after Berserker Blast usage or expiration. This way you can delay the Scythe by not confirming the Blast right away.

Twilight of The Gods

  • The sword animation feels kind of like Magik’s ultimate, but it does not generate projectiles. So you need to be somewhat close to the enemies.

  • In the ultimate form your sword has a damage falloff. It’s not that big, but it exists.

  • If you use team-up with Hela — Ragnarök — use it right after ultimate activation. This way enemies won’t be able to use their escape abilities.

Team-Ups

Ragnarök (Hela)

  • The slash after activation does damage on 360° around you.

  • Although the game says that this ability grounds the enemies, it does not. It earthbind them instead. In other words, it does not work like Thor’s Lightning Realm, it works like The Thing’s Yancy Street Charge: instead of dropping flyers from the sky, it does not allow all high mobility abilities like dashes.

    • It makes this ability a great compation in a fight against supports or divers. Use it to do not allow them to go away.
    • Another one way to use it is right after Twilight of The Gods activation in the crowd of enemies. You will get the activation slash and you will ground the enemies, but the Annihilablade will not transform to the Scythe.

Hive Mind (Venom)

  • The ability goes in two straight lines. First it goes to the place you send it, then it goes in the place where you were in the moment it retracts.
    • If you’re skillful enough you may use it to pull an enemy from a map either by standing above the abyss (e.g. on Arakko), or by using this ability, and then going above the abyss via Living Abyss.

Combos

Names are made up. Sorry about the drama, but Gorr The God Butcher can not have unnamed combos.

Execution by Berserkers

Use this combo to start your dive if you have full control over the one not so mobile enemy.

  1. Stand somewhat close to the enemy (no more than 12 meters away).
  2. Double Black Berserker between you and the enemy.
  3. Necro-Power to the enemy.
  4. Wait until Bersers launch up the enemy.
  5. Shadow Harvest to any of them.
  6. Use the Scythe to kill the enemy.

Pros:

  • Looks cool on Practice Range, on static bots. You friends will think you’re somewhat Celestial dive player.
  • You have your Living Abyss to go away.

Cons:

  • Kind of impossible to make it work in a real game.
  • Living Abyss is not a perfect escape tool, because you can be stunned, and the potential of the arrival effect is wasted.

Jokes aside, this combo can be used on certain tanks like Groot, but Gorr is not the perfect hero for this. Although, if you decided to do it, use Living Abyss to trigger Necroverse aura. This will help you to live around the tank kind of in the way Magik does it, but not really.

In other words, this is your combo to go front-to-back. It’s easier to use it from some high ground, otherwise you may miss the Necro-Power.

Reaper of Sudden Death

Use this combo to start your dive when your enemies are mobile. In other words, almost every time.

  1. Black Berserker in front of you.
  2. Shadow Harvest this berserker.
  3. Living Abyss to your target.
  4. Use the Scythe to kill the enemy.
  5. If you are fast enough, Shadow Harvest to the berserker left in the place you used Living Abyss. If the dive attempt took too much time, throw Black Berserker on high ground or somewhere else and Shadow Harvest there to go away.

If you decide to continue the fight, use Necro-Power on the next target to summon all your berserkers.

Pros:

  • Actually works.
  • Uses the Necroverse aura from Living Abyss and allows you to outlive the target.
  • You have at least one Black Berserker in reserve that you can use to go away.
  • Engaging the fight with Living Abyss is more sudden to the enemies and they may not have time to react properly.

Cons:

  • More chaotic gameplay that requires more skill.
  • If you pick a wrong target and go too deep, you may not have an ability to escape with your berserkers, and you Living Abyss is already wasted.

This is your go-to combo for diving backline and going back-to-front.

Flying Abyss

Dealing with fliers is hard, because even though you can fly, you can not execute combo fast enough to kill them in place. Here is what you can do:

  1. Drop some Black Berserker somewhat below the flyer.
  2. Use Necro-Power on the flyer.
  3. Instantly Shadow Harvest to that berserker.
  4. Use Scythe to damage the flyer as much as you can until you start falling too much.
  5. Use Living Abyss to fly above the flyer.
  6. Continue to use Scythe and regular attacks until you kill them.

The berserkers on the ground are optional though. They help with damage a little, but they can mess your Shadow Harvest usage (when executing the combo quickly, you may warp to the wrong berserker).

Living Abyss step helps to chase high mobile flyers like Human Torch, but you need a lot of practice to make it work against him.

As usual, the best way to deal with an enemy you can’t kill alone is to ask for teammates help. Even a small chip of damage by Rocket Raccoon will help you here.

Lore facts

Take a seat

Gorr’s chair does not look like chairs for other heroes, because it’s symbiotic.

It is probably a stretch, but this fact may be a reason why Gorr was released with this emote available from the start. Usually when the new hero is released, they do not have “Take a seat” emote right away.
